Melshor Essomassor Is Building Influence Beyond the C-Suite
Melshor Essomassor’s career in the Democratic Republic of Congo began on the frontline of customer service. Nearly two decades later, he has worked his way through some of the country’s biggest telecommunications companies and into banking, building expertise in brand strategy, digital marketing and business transformation. Alongside that corporate journey, he has developed another role as a mentor, helping hundreds of young professionals acquire the skills needed to navigate an increasingly digital economy.
From customer care to brand strategy
Essomassor began his career at Millicom’s Tigo DRC, where working directly with customers gave him an early understanding of how people experience brands. He would eventually move beyond customer service into marketing, taking on roles across Tigo, Orange and Vodacom as telecommunications became an increasingly competitive and digitally driven industry.
His progression brought him closer to the decisions shaping how companies communicate, attract customers and build relationships with their audiences. At Vodacom Congo, where he spent six years developing the company's digital presence, Essomassor helped translate that understanding into measurable growth.
During his tenure, the company recorded a 300% increase in digital visibility, a tenfold rise in organic reach and a 45% improvement in marketing return on investment. These results reflect the commercial importance of digital marketing in a sector where customer relationships increasingly extend beyond physical shops and traditional advertising.
Building brands through digital transformation
Essomassor has since taken his experience into financial services as Head of Marketing & Corporate Communication at FirstBank DRC, where his responsibilities now include strengthening the bank's brand and supporting its digital banking ambitions.
The transition from telecommunications to banking brings a different set of challenges. Financial institutions must build trust while making their services accessible and relevant to customers whose expectations are evolving alongside digital technology.
Having spent much of his career working at the intersection of customer experience, communication and technology, Essomassor brings an understanding of how digital channels can support broader business objectives. His work reflects the growing importance of marketing leaders who can connect brand positioning with customer behaviour and commercial performance.
Developing the next generation
Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Essomassor has also become known as “Sensei”, a mentor and trainer working with emerging professionals in digital marketing, artificial intelligence, automation, customer relationship management and personal branding.
He trains more than 250 students annually and has coached hundreds of learners, sharing knowledge acquired throughout his career in telecommunications, technology and banking.
His commitment to training adds another dimension to the work he is building. As companies across the DRC invest in digital transformation, the availability of professionals who understand both the technology and its business applications becomes increasingly important. Through mentorship, Essomassor is contributing to the development of that talent while giving younger professionals access to practical industry experience.
Building beyond his own career
From customer care to executive leadership, Essomassor has built a career around understanding how businesses connect with people and how digital tools can strengthen those relationships. His work with emerging professionals extends that experience beyond the organisations he has helped grow.
With more than 18 years across telecommunications, technology and banking, Melshor Essomassor represents a generation of African business leaders combining digital transformation with talent development. His journey illustrates how expertise built within major companies can also become a resource for the wider ecosystem, creating opportunities for the professionals who will shape its next chapter.
