54 Signals2026
What happened
Ethiopian animation project Sunday Morning received the Best Animation development award of R100,000 at the 2026 Durban FilmMart. The project was also selected for the Animation Production Days 2027 industry programme.
Who is behind it
Sunday Morning is directed by Minasie Terefe and produced by Nahom Abiy.
Why it matters
Original animation requires writing, design, production and financing before it reaches screens. Recognition at a film-development market gives its makers industry access and a route to future production partners.
Beyond the story
The project’s awards connect an Ethiopian-made story with international animation investors, producers and distribution networks.
