What happened
Nigerian film Black Market was developed around a major public premiere planned for Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos on 26 September 2026. The producers announced a Guinness World Records attempt involving an audience target of 50,000 people, turning a film release into a public cultural event.
Who is behind it
The film was written by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and Abdul Tijani-Ahmed and directed by Gimsay, with Rixel Studios and production collaborators including FilmOne Studios, Signet Ring Studios and Switch Visuals Production.
Why it matters
The project combines original film production, publicity, event organisation and distribution. It shows the scale of audience ambition around locally produced screen entertainment, as well as the work of directors, performers and producers.
Beyond the story
The premiere’s public-event format places the audience experience alongside the film itself.
